Passion is Useless

Unless you use it for reaching out your goals!

Hey! Do you know what is your passion? Or Have you been struggling to figure out what you are passionate about?

Passion is a strong feeling- it is more than just enthusiasm or excitement; it is an ambition that drives you closer to your dream goals. Your passion could be anything like singing, dancing, cooking or traveling! Anything that you feel strongly about, which compels you to take risks and push you past your current limits. For example, the passion to be artistic- to create your imagination into reality.

“Passion gives you the motivation to keep trying, even if you fail time after time”   – David A. Hunter

Do you know the one quality Steve Jobs looked for while hiring for Apple? It’s PASSION. Steve used to believe,” people who are passionate about what they do and are experts at what they do, are self-motivated, they are self-driven. They don’t need to work with people from whom they cannot learn anything.”

Why is Passion important?

Passion is your life juice

Passion is like fuel to your dreams. When you have passion for something, you love it and will work harder for it. It can push you through difficult times to make a better version of yourself. It is a strong desire that gets you to do incredible things. It gives you a reason to keep learning and work toward mastering that specific interest and turning it into a success. The people who have achieved greatest success in their professional and personal lives, are passionate people who lead, support, mentor others with that ecstasy for work.  These passionate workers are internally motivated through their desire to quest, connect and make an impact.

“A great leader’s courage to fulfill his vision comes from passion not position”    – John C Maxwell

But how do we understand what we are passionate about?

  • Explore yourself. Explore the things that you love and could do with your eyes shut!
  • Grasp the qualities that you enjoy expressing the most.
  • Try to have a clear vision of yourself. Follow your inner guidance. You can take some time to recall about your past experiences and think about what made you feel right about your life.
  • Ask yourself some self-reflective questions like
  • What are the things that you enjoy doing without getting bored?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next coming years?
  • What career do you want to pursue in the near future?
  • What do you want to change about yourself?
  • Try to be clear about your life purpose. Have goals. Align your goals with your life purpose and passion. Because passion without purpose is ‘like a shot without target’ as said by Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha.

“Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping… waiting… and though unwanted… unbidden… it will stir… open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us… guides us… passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace… but we would be hollow… Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.”     – Joss Whedon

Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest German music composer and pianist of the world, sets an extraordinary example of passion.  Beethoven was influenced by popular music and folk music and at the age of 25, while he was gaining popularity in the specific field, he began to realize that he was losing his hearing. He was disheartened, as his playing degenerated because of his partial hearing but nothing could stop him from following his passion for music. He would go for walk in the country side looking for inspiration with his sketchbook. In spite of losing his hearing, he wrote some of the most beautiful songs the world has ever known. Beethoven proved that music isn’t just for ears, it’s a feeling that comes from within your heart and soul through which you can express your emotions. Today his legacy is carried on by many deaf or hard of hearing musicians who could express themselves through music. (encyclopaediaBritannica.com)

“Music is a higher revelation than philosophy.Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.Music is the one incorporeal entrance into the higher world of knowledge which comprehends mankind but which mankind cannot comprehend.Music should strike fire from the heart of man, and bring tears from the eyes of woman.Only the pure in heart can make a good soup.Friends applaud, the comedy is over.Nothing is more intolerable than to have to admit to yourself your own errors. What you are, you are by accident of birth; what I am, I am by myself. There are and will be a thousand princes; there is only one Beethoven.I want to seize fate by the  throat.” -Ludwig van Beethoven

What is time management?

Time management is the process of planning and dividing of tasks to increase the efficiency or productivity.

Why is time management important?

Time management is the key to lead to success. If you want to be a world class leader and have good work balance and generally want to be successful in your career and in your life, you need to pay a lot of attention into this factor. Through time management you can keep a track of all your work, which helps to reduce your stress level and get more out of the day.

Good time management teaches you to be self- reliant, self- discipline which are the two basic pillars of life. It helps you to focus and leads to more career success.

The most advantageous thing about time management is that, you will get some free time to learn about new things or anything that you are passionate about. This will take you closer to your goals. Or if you want you could give yourself that free time and just relax!

“Time is precious because eternity hinges on how we spend it”– Jonathan Edwards

How is time management related to passion?

Some people are lucky to have found a career that encapsulates their passion, whereas the others are still struggling to make time for it. Sometimes your work and responsibilities take a huge chunk of your life which makes it difficult for you to take a little time out for yourself.  But if you are really passionate about something you will anyhow manage to keep it on track. You might skip your meal while doing that as the joy fills up your stomach, or skip plans with friends or family.

But how do we do what we love without skipping plans and keeping the whole thing in balance?

Only through time management you can know how to spend your time wisely and also you will get an idea to sustainably use the time to create what really matters to you. One thing you can't recycle is wasted time

What are the problems faced if we lack time management?

Poor time management results in procrastination. Postponing work for the last-minute leads to stress as the work overloads your head. Urgent assignments, late working hours, unclear expectations, builds up a hostile space inside your head that ultimately results to impatience.

Lack of time management may induce fear into a person. Supposedly, you gave a commitment to your boss and you are failing to meet the deadline. The fear of not being able to complete before the deadline; the fear of missing commitments develops low self-esteem.(Click this Link , and get an expert advice to how to manage time)

As we all know time is limited, if not well used cannot be retrieved. Most of the time, people complain about lack of time when they cannot complete their work or maintain their usual routine on time thus resulting to dissatisfaction of your own output or productivity. Therefore, one bad habit of ineffective time management leads one problem to another problem.

But don’t worry! There are various useful tips written by Lolly Daskal (President and CEO, Lead from Within) (www.inc.com) regarding the management of time.

Some of them are:

  • Create an action plan
